Juan Sanchez has been on a lifelong quest to move dance floors in the most compelling and original ways possible. The Amsterdam based DJ and producer is founder of the influential Format label and clubbing concept, and both of these have helped to establish himself as a sovereign tastemaker within the international electronic music community. Together with a sound that is best described as stripped-down, sophisticated techno packed with twists and turns for complete floor annihilation, it is this refined musical vision that has made him a respected name in the world league, a well as being a preferred pick for many top party purveyors.
On the DJ tip, Juan has played many peak time spots at clubs and festivals around the globe, and in December 2014 he received prime time billing at the Dutch edition of one of the world’s best-known techno shindigs, Time Warp, and was undoubtedly one of the highlights. On the production side, Juan has released numerous records on major labels including Adam Beyer’s mighty Drumcode, and since May 2014 his own Format label has become an essential platform for potent and mature underground techno. The label kicked off with the debut release from Juan’s JSSL moniker—the name under which he churns out stripped back techno cuts for the peak of the night—and since then, like Juan, it has gone from strength to strength.
